1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to YardLocal. By accessing, browsing, or listing a sale on YardLocal (the “Platform”), you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.
2. Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy
To protect shoppers, local communities, and ensure compliance with digital safety and advertising regulations, YardLocal maintains a zero-tolerance policy for dangerous, illegal, or regulated goods. The following items may NEVER be advertised, listed, or sold through YardLocal:
Firearms, Weapons & Ammunition
Guns, handguns, rifles, shotguns, assault weapons, ammunition, bullets, cartridges, primers, gunpowder, reloading components, suppressors/silencers, firearm frames/receivers, ghost-gun parts, and illegal weapons (brass knuckles, switchblades, butterfly knives, tasers, stun guns).
Explosives, Fireworks & Pyrotechnics
Commercial or consumer fireworks, firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortar shells, dynamite, blasting caps, grenades, and explosive manufacturing materials.
Drugs, Cannabis & Controlled Substances
Marijuana/weed, THC edibles, cannabis concentrates, THC vape cartridges, illegal narcotics (cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, MDMA, psilocybin), prescription drugs for sale or transfer, and drug paraphernalia.
Tobacco, Nicotine & Vaping Products
Cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, disposable vapes, vape juice/e-liquids, and nicotine pouches.
Alcohol & Liquor Sales
Sale or unlicensed distribution of beer, wine, spirits, liquor, moonshine, or homebrewed alcoholic beverages. (Empty decorative bottles, barware, and wine racks are permitted).
Counterfeit & Replica Goods
Knockoffs, fake branded luxury goods, 1:1 replicas, AAA mirror replicas, unauthorized copies, and bootleg merchandise.
Stolen Property & Illegal Contraband
Stolen merchandise, looted goods, stolen government property, and items obtained through theft or fraud.
Fake Documents & Identity Fraud
Fake IDs, forged driver's licenses, novelty passports, fake diplomas, government badges, and identity falsification services.
Hacking, Malware & Cybercrime
Hacking services, keyloggers, botnets, malware, ransomware, credit card dumps, stolen accounts, and private personal information (such as Social Security numbers).
Adult Sexual Products & Services
Sex toys, explicit adult novelties, pornography, sexual services, escort advertising, and any form of child sexual abuse material (CSAM - reported to law enforcement immediately).
Endangered Wildlife & Animal Cruelty
Elephant ivory, rhino horns, sea turtle shells, parts from endangered species, fighting animals, or items associated with animal abuse.
Hate & Extremist Material
Nazi memorabilia, white supremacy regalia, hate-group flags, terrorist propaganda, and items promoting hate speech or violence.
Coded & Obfuscated Language: Attempts to circumvent listing rules using spaced letters, punctuation, coded jargon (e.g. “PM for the real inventory” or “DM for details”), or placing prohibited terms inside photos are strictly prohibited and will result in listing removal and account restriction.
3. What You Can Sell
YardLocal is designed for everyday secondhand neighborhood yard sales, moving sales, estate liquidations, and community swap events. Legitimate household goods are welcomed and encouraged:
4. Automated Keyword Safety & Moderation
Every listing submitted by users or imported from external directories undergoes automated safety screening before publication:
- Pre-Publication Check: Listing titles, descriptions, category tags, seller notes, and extracted image text are evaluated against YardLocal's compliance dictionary.
- Instant Rejection: Listings clearly offering prohibited goods are rejected immediately and blocked from appearing in search results, category pages, seller pages, or XML feeds.
- Safety Review Queue: Ambiguous listings (e.g. vague military memorabilia or private inventory requests) are held in a private draft state pending safety review.
- Re-Moderation on Edit: Any updates to listing titles, text, items, or photos automatically trigger a new safety check.
5. Seller Responsibility & Local Permitting
Hosts are solely responsible for ensuring their sale dates, locations, and activities comply with local municipal codes, HOA restrictions, and town permit requirements. YardLocal does not issue garage sale permits or inspect physical sale venues.
6. Marketplace Disclaimer & In-Person Safety
YardLocal functions as a local event directory and search engine connecting shoppers with sale hosts. We do not process payments, handle escrow, or deliver items. All physical sales, transactions, and agreements occur directly between buyers and sellers. We encourage all participants to practice standard in-person safety: conduct transactions during daylight hours, bring cash or use secure mobile pay, and observe neighborhood parking etiquette.
7. Violations & Account Enforcement
Violations of these Terms or our Prohibited Items Policy will result in immediate unlisting of content, exclusion from search engines, and progressive seller account penalties (warning, review requirement, suspension, or permanent platform ban).
